I'm DONE with highschool.
And boy, there are SO many things I DON'T miss, and probably won't EVER miss.
One thing that particularly stands out in my mind is something I see in both school and in places like facebook. It's that need to have attention, positive attention, but mostly just attention. It's a whole world of every-man-for-himself. If you don't do what you need to do to be cool or popular or accepted, then you're going to fail at life, according to the world. (Which of course we all know isn't true in the large scheme of things, but while you're in highschool, you've got to play the game if you want to get through alive.)
There are 2 specific people who really stand out in my mind as perfect examples of this trait. They like to set the bar. They tell you what they think, and what they think is the law of highschool. Seriously, that's how it works. And if you tell them they're a mean person, they say "that's right, I'm the worst person you'll ever meet, be afraid." muahahahahahahahaa
Not even kidding, that's what they've said.
They have this need for having to have people surrounding them, practically worshiping them for something that is completely rediculous, like an article of clothing that is actually really trashy and in 20 years we'll be looking back on those photos, barfing at the ugliness of what the world considers to be "trendy" today. They also get "worshiped" for saying mean and very innapropriate things, for being a bully, and for being conceited. Because when you're conceited, you're somebody who has "self-esteem", and people can look up to you. Or so you think.
What they have is NOT self-esteem, it's EGO. And it's not healthy to have. It's certainly cool to have, just like for some people drugs are cool to have, and for other people peircings, and for others it's expensive flashy gadgets and cars and stuff. None of this stuff is healthy, good for you, or necessary whatsoever if you want to truely have a sucessful happy life. Acceptance from others does not bring true happiness.
I consider myself very blessed to know this, to not have needed to find this out the hard way.
And I also consider myself very blessed to have made it through highschool alive, and I never have to go back.
muahahahahahaha :)
